In 1974, Pastor Jerry Gibson and thirty adults and twelve children gathered for one purpose - forming an Independent Baptist Church. It is unlikely any of them contemplated what God would do and how He would work through the ministry of this church.
Gethsemane Baptist Church members first met at Chuck's Market in Fairlawn. Later they moved to the Lynchburg Foundry Union Hall in Radford. This is where services were held for seven months. In need of larger facilities, the church then moved to the Fairlawn Union Hall. Services were held there for about a year and a half. At that time members worked diligently to build our current church building in Radford. On April 18, 1976, before daylight, we had our first Easter Sunrise service in our new building. Through the leadership of Pastor Gibson, God marvelously blessed our ministry down through the years, which includes providing three buildings to help carry out the Great Commission of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We have experienced a steady growth to our current enrollment of 400 + members. Upon the retirement of Pastor Gibson in April of 2017, the church voted on Brent Strouf to become our new pastor in June of 2017. Gethsemane is a Bible-Believing, Bible Preaching, Independent Fundamental, Pre-Millennial, Separated, Soul-Winning Church. We give all glory to God for the great things He has done over the past 43 years! |
